In computing, comms is a short, informal way of saying communications: the programs and systems that let one computer send information to another. Software people talk about “the comms” when they mean the talking part — a comms module, serial comms, network comms — not the whole app. You meet it in manuals and in engineer-to-engineer talk more than in school books. It is almost always written comms, with the -s, even when they mean one system. Though actually, the same is used in offices for the public-relations team; that is a different job of the letters, and this entry is the computer-to-computer one.
