If you are committed to something, you have decided it matters and you will keep working at it. You give it time, care, and energy, and you do not walk away when it gets hard. People say a committed teacher, a committed volunteer, committed to the job, committed to the relationship. In everyday English it is a praising word: this person means it. In offices and it can sound a bit official (“we are committed to cutting waste”). Though actually, the same spelling does other jobs: the past of commit (he committed a crime), and the legal sense (committed to hospital, committed to prison). Those are not this meaning. Here we mean the “I will stick with it” sense.
