If you are committed to something, you have decided it matters and you will keep working at it. You give it time, care, and energy, and you do not walk away when it gets hard.
If you are committed to something你如果對一件事是 committed, you have decided你已經認定 it matters它重要, and you will keep working at it而且會一直做下去。 You你 give it給它 time時間、 care心思 and energy和力氣, and而且 when it gets hard難的時候 you do not walk away你不會走掉。
People say a committed teacher, a committed volunteer, committed to the job, committed to the relationship. In everyday English it is a praising word: this person means it. In offices and it can sound a bit official (“we are committed to cutting waste”).
People say大家會說 a committed teacher盡心的老師、 a committed volunteer全心投入的志工、 committed to the job對工作認真投入、 committed to the relationship對感情認真經營。 In everyday English在日常英文裡, it它 is a praising word是稱讚的字: this person means it這個人是玩真的。 In offices and politics在辦公室和政治場合, it它 can sound a bit official可能聽起來有點官腔 (“we are committed to cutting waste”我們致力於減少浪費)。
Though actually, the same spelling does other jobs: the past of commit (he committed a crime), and the legal sense (committed to hospital, committed to prison). Those are not this meaning. Here we mean the “I will stick with it” sense.
Though actually不過其實, the same spelling同一個拼法 does other jobs還有別的工作: commit 的 the past過去式 (he committed a crime他犯了罪), and the legal sense和法律上的意思 (committed to hospital強制送醫, committed to prison收監)。 Those那些 are not this meaning都不是這裡的意思。 Here這裡 we mean我們說的是 the “I will stick with it” sense「我會堅持下去」的那個意思。
組成From the verb commit + -ed. Commit comes from Latin committere: com- (together) + mittere (to send) — to put something into someone’s hands, or to bind yourself to it.
