Commemorative describes something made or done to show that you remember and respect a person or an important event — a commemorative stamp, coin, plaque, concert, or edition. It is usually an adjective sitting in front of a noun: the thing itself is for marking a memory, not for everyday use. People also use it as a noun for that object, especially a special coin or medal. The verb is commemorate; commemorative is the “made for remembering” kind of thing, not the action. It sounds a little official, the language of museums and post offices.

組成From New Latin commemorātīvus, from commemorō. By the look of the English word: commemorate + -ive (“having that quality”). Same family as French commémoratif. First used in the early 1600s.
