A commando is a soldier specially trained for fast, dangerous surprise attacks, usually working in a small, highly skilled team rather than a large army unit — 'a commando raid' is a quick, secret military operation. Separately, there's an informal, joking phrase, 'going commando,' which means wearing no underwear — worth knowing since it sounds surprising the first time you hear it, but it has nothing to do with soldiers.
