  1. 1清秀的、標緻的（文、舊；端正好看，現在口語很少用）

    If you call a woman comely, you are saying she is attractive to look at — but in an old, gentle way. The picture is a pleasant, face, not a fashion-magazine one. The word is literary and rather old. in books might use it; teenagers almost never do. Though actually, it could once describe men, and even behaviour that was fitting and proper, but the meaning students will meet is almost always “nice to look at,” and almost always about a woman. It is a compliment, but a dated one: say it to a person today and you may sound as if you have out of an old story. It is not related to the verb come.

組成From Old English cymlīċ, from cȳme (beautiful) + -līċ (like). Not from the verb come.
