A come-on is something a person does on purpose to make someone else sexually interested in them — a look, a line, a touch, a way of standing too close. It is informal. You might say someone was giving you a come-on, or that a smile was a come-on. Though actually, the other person may not agree it was a come-on at all; that is why the word can sound a little sharp, as if you are naming an aim the speaker may not admit. It is not a sweet or romantic word; it is the word for a signal with a sexual pull. Do not mix it with the everyday phrase Come on! — that one urges a person to hurry, try, or stop being silly, and it has no and no sexual meaning.
