1. 1

A combover is a man’s : he grows the hair long on one side and combs it across the top of his head, hoping it will hide that he is going bald. People use the word with a smile, or a little — it is the look everyone can see through, even when the man hopes they cannot. Though actually, the man himself almost never says “my combover”; other people say it about him. It belongs to jokes, films, and gentle teasing more than to a ’s serious talk. You picture an older man. You would not use it for a woman, and you would not use it for a neat side on a full head of hair.
