Colette (1873–1954) was a French writer. Her full name was Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette, but readers know her as Colette. She wrote novels about love, desire, the stage, and the messy lives of women and men; the two titles English are most likely to meet are Chéri and Gigi (Gigi later became a famous film and musical). She wrote in French; English readers meet her in translation. This is a person’s name used as a literature , not a common noun you put into everyday sentences.
