Coachwork is the main outer body of a car — the shape you see, the doors, the roof, the painted shell — not the engine and not the wheels. The word feels British, and a bit special: car sellers, classic-car people, and old advertisements use it; most of us just say the body or bodywork. Though actually the story is older than cars. A coach was first a horse carriage, and the work was the built body of that carriage. When cars arrived, the same shops often built the bodies, so the name stuck. Today it can sound a little fancy, as if the car was made with extra care.
