A co-worker is someone who works with you, usually in the same place and at a similar level — not your boss, and not someone you only pass in the lift. American English likes this word a lot, and often it coworker, as one word. British English still uses it, but colleague and are also common. You can say “a co-worker of mine” about the person at the next desk. Though actually a co-worker is not always a friend, and colleague can cover people a bit above or below you, while co-worker leans toward “same kind of job, same office or shop floor”. It is everyday and polite. The first part only means “together”; you still have to read the second half.
co-worker 指跟你在同一個地方工作、職位差不多的人，不是老闆，也不是只在電梯裡碰到的人。美式英文很常用，也常寫成連在一起的 coworker；英式英文也用，但 colleague 和 workmate 同樣常見。隔壁桌的同事，可以說「a co-worker of mine」。
和 colleague 比起來，co-worker 偏向做同樣工作、在同一間辦公室或工作現場的人，colleague 的範圍則可能包括職位稍高或稍低的人。co-worker 也不一定是朋友，語氣日常而有禮貌。台灣就講同事；同僚比較文。
