    Clydeside is the land along the River Clyde in Scotland, especially the towns from Glasgow down toward Greenock. For a long time this was one of the great stretches in the world: yards along the river built huge ships, and whole families worked there. When people say “Clydeside” they often mean that working river world — the cranes, the yards, the workers — not only the water. Much of that work has gone, so the word now carries a past: famous companies, hard labour, and later, quiet yards. It is a place-name built in a simple way, like riverside.
