    A cloudburst is rain that hits all at once: sudden, very heavy, and often short. It is not the slow rain that builds for hours. The picture in the word is a cloud that cannot hold the water any more and lets it fall in a rush. Streets can flood in a few minutes; then the sky may clear. People use it in weather talk and in stories when they want that sharp, violent kind of rain, not just “a wet day”. It is a little more colourful than heavy rain, but still ordinary English — not slang, not scientific .
