A clonk is a dull, heavy sound — the kind you hear when a hard, heavy thing drops on the floor or bangs into another hard thing. It is not bright, like a bell. Think of a pan hitting a counter, or a tool falling in a garage. Informal. You can use it as a name for the sound, or as a verb: it clonked against the wall. English has a little cluster of hitting-sound words like this. Clink is lighter, more like glass; clank is more metallic and rattly; clunk is almost the same as clonk, and many people treat those two as twins. You will hear clunk more often in everyday talk.
