1. 1

Clingfilm is the very thin, clear plastic you pull off a roll and press over a bowl or a plate so food stays fresh. It sticks to itself and to the dish — that is the ‘.’ This is the usual word in British English (also written film). Americans say plastic wrap, and they may say Saran wrap after a famous brand. In a British kitchen, on packing instructions, and in shops, clingfilm is the normal name. It is an everyday household word, not a science word. Though actually, people stretch it a little: ‘wrapped in clingfilm’ can describe anything sealed tight in thin plastic, not only leftovers. Film here is a thin sheet, not a movie.
