Clientele is all the people who regularly use a shop, restaurant, hotel, or a professional’s service — not one guest, but the crowd that keeps coming back. A café may have a young student clientele; a clinic may have an older clientele. The word feels a little formal and a little French, because English borrowed it from French clientèle, and that goes back to Latin cliens, the same root as English client. Owners, , and people talking about business use it. It often carries a hint about what kind of people they are, not only how many. You would not point at one person and say “that is my clientele.” For one person, say customer or client.
