Cleantech — also written clean tech or clean-tech — is a business and news word for products, machines, and methods meant to be kinder to the environment. Solar panels, better batteries, factories that waste less water, tools that cut dirty air: people bundle these as cleantech when they talk about money, jobs, and invention, not when they talk about recycling at home. It is newer than “green” or “eco-friendly,” and it sounds like industry. Though actually, “clean” here is a hope and a selling point, not a scientific grade. A cleantech firm can still ; the label means the product is aimed at cutting harm, not that it has none. Common in newspapers and company talk; rare at the dinner table.
