Clanking is the -ing form of clank. As an adjective, a clanking chain is one that keeps making that heavy metal noise. As a noun, the clanking of armour is the sound itself. You will see it with things that move and knock: old heaters, trains, knights in films. Same idea as clank — just the ongoing, describing form. It is not a or different meaning.
