A clambake is an informal outdoor party by the sea, in the American picture: people cook clams together — and often corn, potatoes, sometimes lobster — over hot stones with wet , so the food steams rather than sitting in a kitchen oven. You eat outside, with your hands, in a loose summer crowd. That New England beach feast is the home meaning. People also stretch it: any relaxed seaside cookout with seafood, even when nothing was buried in a pit, and sometimes, a little jokingly, any noisy outdoor gathering of that kind. You will hear a clambake lunch, a clambake on the beach. It is friendly, informal, and very American; it is not a Taiwan everyday word, but it turns up in US stories, films, and summer talk.
