Ciabatta is an Italian white bread: rather flat and oval, a crisp crust, a soft inside with big irregular holes, and olive oil in the dough. Cafés cut it for sandwiches. The Italian name is the ordinary word for a , because of the shape. It tastes rustic and feels old — though actually the as we buy it was created in Italy in the 1980s, to stand up to the French baguette, and then travelled the world. In Taiwan bakeries you will see 恰巴塔 or the Italian spelling; some signs add 拖鞋麵包, which is a joke that is also true.
