To chunder is to vomit — to bring food back up from your stomach, often after too much drink or a rough journey. It is strongly Australian and New Zealand slang: , not medical, and quite ordinary there in speech. You can also use it as a noun: He had a chunder. In a doctor’s room you would say vomit or be sick instead. The origin is unknown, and people argue about it. One story says it was from Chunder Loo, supposed rhyming slang for spew, from an old cartoon; another says sailors shouted Watch under! before being sick over the side of a ship. Neither story is well proved, so it is safer to leave the origin open than to pick a folk tale.
