Chronology is the order that things happened in, from earliest to latest, arranged along a timeline. When you tell a story or explain history 'in chronological order' (the adjective form), you go through events in the order they really happened, step by step, not jumping around in time. A book, movie, or news report can also choose NOT to follow chronology - starting in the middle or the end, and going back - which is a common storytelling trick.
