In music, a chord is several musical notes played together at the same time, so they sound like one combined sound rather than separate notes — guitar and piano players learn chords to play songs. There's also an expression, "to strike a chord," which has nothing to do with actual music: it means something makes people feel a strong emotional reaction because it connects with their own feelings or experience.
