A Chihuahua is a very small dog, often with short smooth hair, a round head, and large eyes. The breed comes from Mexico and is named after the Mexican state of Chihuahua. People keep Chihuahuas as pets. They can shake, and they can bark as if they were much bigger. Though actually, not every tiny dog is a Chihuahua; some people use the name loosely for any small lap dog, but people who know the breed are stricter. Because the word is a place name, we do not break it into English pieces.
