The way a writer builds and shows a character in a book, movie, or play — through what they say, do, think, and how others react to them. Good characterization makes a character feel real and specific, not flat or generic. It can also mean describing someone or something in a certain way, sometimes — 'that's an unfair characterization of what happened,' meaning someone described a situation in a way.
