A chappy is a chap: an informal British word for a man, often said in a warm or slightly old-fashioned way. You might hear a nice old chappy, or some chappy at the door. It feels friendly, a little , and a bit dated; younger speakers more often say guy, bloke, or man. It is not a formal word and not a job title.
