Chanukah is the same festival as Hanukkah: the Jewish Festival of Lights. It lasts eight days, usually in November or December. Families light one more candle each night on a special lamp (a menorah, or hanukkiah), eat fried food, play a small spinning-top game, and remember a story of the Temple in Jerusalem being won back and dedicated again — and of a little oil that was said to have burned far longer than it should. It is a Jewish holiday, not a Christian one, even though it often falls near Christmas and shops in some countries sell the two together. English has never settled on a spelling, because the name is borrowed from Hebrew: Hanukkah, Chanukah, even Hannukah. The Ch- at the front is trying to show a raspy sound that English does not really have. None of those spellings is a different festival.
