    A chairlift is a line of seats hanging from a moving cable high above the ground. It carries people up and down a mountain. use it most: you sit, a safety bar comes over your lap, and the chairs take you to the top of the slope so you can ski down. Each chair may hold two, four, or more people, and your feet dangle in the open air. Though actually, it is not only for snow. Some tourist mountains run chairlifts in summer so walkers can go up without a long climb. It is slower and more open than a cable car, which is a closed box. The word is everyday at ski places, not a fancy office word.
