CH is a British award: the Companion of Honour. It is given for outstanding service to the nation — often in the arts, science, medicine, or public life — and the list is tiny on purpose: no more than 65 living people may hold it at one time. It is not a , so it does not make you Sir or Dame, and it is not a medal for one brave day in battle. Holders put the letters after their name, in the British way of writing honours. You will almost only meet this in news about British awards, or after a famous name. The same letters CH also stand for Switzerland on some cars and lists; that is a different CH.
組成Short for Companion of Honour. (A different, old dialect word ch meaning “I” has another history — from ich / Old English iċ — and is not this award.)
