Cerulean is a deep, clear blue — the blue of a bright sky with little cloud. Painters, fashion people, and careful writers use it when they want a colour name, not just “blue.” It can be a noun (a cerulean) or an adjective (a cerulean dress). It is not a lab word you need every day; it sits in art, design, and pretty description. Though actually, like many colour names, it is a band of blues rather than one exact paint-chip, so two people may not point to quite the same shade.
