    Cellophane is a thin, clear sheet used to wrap gifts, flowers, and food so you can still see what is inside. It is a little stiff and makes a quiet crinkle when you fold it. The name began as a brand, though actually people now use it for the material in general — and they also say it for other clear kitchen wrap that is not the same stuff. Real cellophane is made from cellulose, the plant fibre in wood and cotton; a lot of film today is a different plastic. Families still say the old name because that is what they grew up hearing.
