Ceefax was a BBC service in Britain. From 1974 to 2012 it sent pages of writing — news, sport, weather, TV listings, even subtitles — through the television signal. You called up a page with numbers on the remote, and simple coloured text appeared on a dark screen. It was not the internet; it was older, slower, and free if you had a TV. Digital television ended it. The name is a playful spelling of “see facts”. If you are not in Britain, or not of that generation, you may never have seen it; in the UK it was once as ordinary as the evening news. It is a proper name, so it keeps the capital C.
