    Cautiously means “in a cautious way”: carefully, because you do not want to get hurt or make a mistake. You walk cautiously on ice. You speak cautiously when the news might be wrong. It is a common, everyday adverb and does not sound fancy. Though actually, in stories “she answered cautiously” often hints at more than sense: the person may be hiding something, or does not quite trust the question.
