The Caucasus is a place in the far south-east of Europe, between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea. Georgia, Armenia, , and part of southern Russia sit there, and the Caucasus Mountains run through the middle. People say "the Caucasus" for the whole area, and "the Caucasus Mountains" when they mean the range. Though actually, map-makers do not always agree if this land counts as Europe or as Asia — it sits on that line, so you will see both answers. It is a place name, so English keeps the: the Caucasus, like the Alps. The people from there are Caucasian in the old geography sense; that is not the same as the loose American use of Caucasian for "white person", which grew from an old and shaky idea about where Europeans came from.
