Cats is a famous musical: a stage show that tells a story with songs and dance. Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the music; the story grows out of T. S. Eliot’s poems about cats (Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats). Dancers in cat costumes play a night-world of cat characters, and the song people still hum is “Memory”. It ran for years in London and New York and has been seen by millions; touring shows have come through Taiwan as well. Written Cats with a capital C, it is this show’s name, not “more than one cat”. Some people love it and some find it strange, but it is one of the best-known musicals of the late twentieth century.
