    A carvery is a restaurant, especially in Britain, that serves roast meat as the main event. You take a plate and someone beef, pork, lamb, or chicken for you, then you help yourself to vegetables, gravy, and the usual Sunday extras. It is everyday rather than fancy: pubs and hotels often do a carvery at lunch. American English barely uses the word. It is a place, not a person — the person (or the knife) is a carver — and it has nothing to do with wood.
