Carry-out is food you buy at a restaurant but do not eat there — you take it home, to the office, or eat it in the street. The word can also mean the shop itself, the place that sells food like this. You will hear it in American English, especially in some parts of the US, and in Scottish English. In England people usually say takeaway; many Americans say takeout. Same idea, different labels. Though actually, the verb phrase carry out is a completely different thing: that means to do a job or a plan ("carry out an order"). The food word is a noun, often written with a hyphen.
