1. 1

A carport is a shelter for a car with a roof held up by posts, or sometimes by walls on one or two sides. It is usually open at the front, so you drive under it rather than into a closed room. Wind and rain can still come in. It is a quieter, more ordinary word than garage, and you hear it a lot where houses have driveways. It keeps some weather off the car, but it does not lock the car away.
