Caribbean means from, or about, the islands in the Caribbean Sea — the warm sea between North and South America, with places such as Jamaica, Cuba, and Puerto Rico. You can say Caribbean food, Caribbean music, a Caribbean island. People also say the Caribbean for the whole area. A person from those islands may be called Caribbean, though many people name the island instead: Jamaican, Cuban, and so on. The name comes from the Carib people, who lived in those islands. Stress the bee: ca-ri-BEE-an. Some speakers place the stress differently, but that bee is the one meet most.
