A cardie is a cardigan: a knitted top that opens down the front, usually with buttons. This is informal British English — a soft, short form, the kind of word you use in a shop or at home, not in a clothing catalogue. People also spell it cardi. Americans more often say cardigan. It is friendly clothes-talk, a little , never medical. Older and younger British speakers both use it; it does not sound old-fashioned, just casual.
