Carbonized is the ‘already done’ form. Carbonized wood is wood that has been turned toward carbon — black, dry, and brittle, like charcoal. A carbonized sample in a lab has been through that heat-without-air change. You can use it like an adjective in front of a noun (carbonized remains, carbonized fibre) or as the past form of the verb (the heat carbonized the sugar). The idea is the same as carbonize, but here you are looking at the result, not giving an order to do it. Though actually, in the kitchen people still say burnt or charred for food; carbonized sounds like a report or a science note. It does not mean the thing is fizzy, and it does not mean it is a carbonate salt. It means it has been changed, by that special kind of burning, into something that is mostly carbon.
