A carbine is a rifle that is shorter and lighter than a full-length rifle. Soldiers and police use it when they need a gun that is easier to carry in a vehicle, in a building, or on in older times. It still like a rifle, not like a small pistol. The word is military and technical; ordinary talk may just say rifle or gun. Historically it was the ’s shorter gun. Though actually, today’s “carbine” can still be quite powerful — short does not mean toy. It is not a brand on its own; it is a type.
