A cannonball is a heavy round ball, usually iron, that an old cannon . Unlike many shells today, it had no explosive inside: it hurt people and walls because it was heavy and fast. You see the word in museums, pirate stories, and history. People also use it at the swimming pool: a cannonball is a jump where you curl up like a ball and make a huge splash.
