A can-do person, or a can-do attitude, is someone who is willing to try, and who expects that trying might actually work. They do not sit still listing reasons to stop. You hear it most as can-do attitude in work, sport, and school pep talks. It sounds cheerful and a bit American. It can be honest praise — or, though actually, it can sound like management-speak when a boss wants people to work harder and smile about it. Informal to neutral. It almost always wants a noun beside it: attitude, spirit, approach.
