A camisole is a light piece of women’s clothing that covers the chest down to the waist, with two narrow bands over the shoulders — the kind people call spaghetti straps. It sits between underwear and a top: you can wear it under a so the fabric does not rub, you can sleep in it, or in hot weather some people wear it on its own. It is not a bra (no cups, no wires) and not a thick sports vest; it is usually thin silk, satin, or cotton, and it hangs rather than holding you up. Shops often it to cami. A hundred years ago the same word could mean a little jacket; in English now it almost always means this strappy top. Everyday and a little pretty, not a technical word.
