Calgary is a large city in southern Alberta, in western Canada. It sits where the Bow River and the Elbow River meet, with the Rocky Mountains not far to the west. Canada’s oil and gas business has long had its main home there, so people often think of Calgary as an energy city. It is also famous for the Calgary Stampede, a huge cowboy festival each summer. The Canadian city was named after a small village called Calgary on the island of Mull in Scotland — the new place borrowed the old name. It is a proper name, so we write it with a capital C.
