A cabriolet is a car with a roof you can fold back so you sit in the open air. Everyday English more often says convertible; cabriolet is the older, more European word. You see it on car badges and in ads that want to sound a bit fancy, especially from German and French makers. Long before cars, a cabriolet was a light horse carriage with a folding hood — the car sense grew from that. It is a countable name: a cabriolet, two cabriolets. Younger speakers may read it on a car and still say convertible out loud.
