A caber is a long, heavy wooden pole used as a test of strength in Scottish sports. In the Highland Games, a man lifts the pole, runs a few steps, and throws it so that it turns in the air and lands pointing away from him — that event is called tossing the caber. The pole is like a trimmed tree trunk, not a stick you could hold in one hand. You will almost only meet this word in that sport, or in writing about Scotland. It is not a word for ordinary wood, and it has nothing to do with taxis.
