If a woman is called buxom, the speaker means she looks healthy and rounded, and that she has a full chest — large breasts — said in a softer, older voice than the blunt body words. You meet it in novels, in older films, and sometimes in a joke. It is almost always used of women, not of men, and it is not a young street word. Though actually, that tidy picture is newer than the word. A long time ago buxom meant ready to bend: pliant, obedient, easy to say yes. Later it meant cheerful and lively. Only after that did it settle on the body. So the dictionary line is how people use it now, but the word still carries a looking-at-her tone. Many women do not wish to be described this way in real life. Know it when you read it; think twice before you say it of a person standing in front of you.

組成From old English for 'ready to bend': bow (to bend) + -some (having that quality). First obedient, then cheerful; the 'full-bodied woman' meaning came last.
