In the north of England, a butty is a sandwich. That is the whole job of the word — bread with something in it — said in a warm, everyday way, not a café-menu way. A bacon butty is bacon in bread; a chip butty is chips (the British word for thick fries) in a roll or between slices, often with butter. It sounds friendly and a little old-fashioned. A speaker from Manchester or Liverpool may use it without thinking; many people in London or the United States never say it at all. Though actually, English also has an older butty meaning a , especially in the mines, and that is a different word-history. This sandwich sense comes from a buttered sandwich or bun, and given a small -y. In class, if the sentence is about food, it is this one.
三明治(英國北部口語;chip butty 是薯條夾麵包)
