To stop joining a talk or a problem that is not yours. It is informal and quite rude, so people mostly say it to family or close friends, often as an order: "Butt out!" You can add what to stay out of: "butt out of my business". There is no object after it directly, and it is very American — you hear it a lot in TV shows.
